Q: Functionally composing a Clojure sequence using reduce/fn I'm trying to make a simple 1d vectorized for/reduce call using Clojure. The vectorized reduce requires the function to be a reduce iterator (i.e. monadic function), but my function is a value so I can't really use reduce. I also don't want to use map-indexed. I would really like to do something like: (reduce (fn [f x] (f x)) (my-vector)) or equivalently: (reduce (fn [f x] (f x)) my-vector) The first form doesn't work because it's expecting a monadic function as the first argument. The second form would be fine if I could do something like (map (fn [x] (f x)) my-vector) But that's obviously not what I'm looking for. The problem is that the second form is very awkward because there's no argument position to match the one being fed into the my-vector argument. So I have two questions: Is there a way to write a function that gets fed an input and produces an output? I want to avoid having to have a special case for one-element vectors and maps. Is there a more elegant way to compose a sequence with a given function? (Note: this is related to a related question I asked before, but it's not the same question. I'd appreciate feedback about how to reword that question so it's clear.) A: (defn reduce-it [it func] (map #(func %) it)) or (into (into (into {}) it) func)) This is something I'd say is outside the "norms of usage", since most people are not familiar with how reduce works and what it means. I think what you really want is (transducer-map #(% %) my-vector). You can look at (transducer-map #(% %) my-vector) to get a better understanding of how this works. transducer-map is a macro (not a function) that takes in an arity and an argument vector, and then applies an arity-1 function
